This collection of records was developed in the process of trying to find my own Davidson ancestors of Aghaloo Parish. The particular family in question was that of GEORGE DAVIDSON (c1780-1862) and wife AGNES OLIVER (c1783-1860). In 1828, they emigrated from Aghaloo Parish to Inverness Township, Megantic County, Lower Canada (Province of Quebec), along with their children, all born in Co. Tyrone. The children all married in Lower Canada, and were as follows:

2. ELIZA DAVIDSON, born 1807 m in 1828 to Samuel Henry

3. AGNES DAVIDSON, born c. 1809, m in 1838 to William Warren Trebilcock

4. SUSANNAH DAVIDSON, born 26 Feb 1810, m in 1828 to William Henderson – he formerly of Aghaloo Parish

5. THOMAS DAVIDSON, born c1812, m in 1833 to Sophia Hogg, m 2nd Jane Annesley and m 3rd Ann Bain

6. ROBERT DAVIDSON, born c1816, m in 1838 to Phoebe Aldrich

7. JANE DAVIDSON, born c1818, m William Marshall

8. GEORGE DAVIDSON II, born c1820, m Louisa Elizabeth Hogg

1. All baptism, marriage, and burial records in this document identified as ‘COUNT’ are from: The Davidsons/Davisons of Ulster, by John Andrew Brodie Davison, Count of Clandemond. This manuscript is held by the Linen Hall Library, Belfast. It includes baptism, marriage and burial records for Davidsons of every county in Ulster. I abstracted all the Davidson records for Aghaloo Parish and Co. Armagh Caledon Estate Townlands.

3. Church of Ireland Church Records for the Diocese of Armagh, County Tyrone are available at PRONI, on microfilm, as follows:

a) Caledon: Dungannon Lower Barony, County Tyrone: Aghaloo and Caledon parish MIC/583-25 (Period 1700s-1841, with some illegible pages 1807-1809, 1811, and 1816-1819) and MIC/583-26 (Begins 1842). I abstracted all of the Davidson records which were legible, up to about 1836. This is St John’s C of I, on Churchill Rd., Caledon Village.

b) Carnteel parish MIC/583/27, 29-32. I abstracted all Davidsons.

c) Tynan Parish MIC/1/8 covers baptisms for1686-1725, marriages and burials for 1683-1897. C of I parishioners of the eastern half of Aghaloo Parish attended the church in Tynan Parish from about 1683-1691. I reviewed this microfilm. And MIC 1/12 covers baptisms for 1806-1853, marriages for 1806-1845, and burials for 1806-1897.

4. Presbyterian Church Records:

a) Drumhillery -PRONI MIC/1P/440 for 1700s-1805, Tynan Parish. The original register for 1806-1851 is held by the Rector of 2nd Keady Presbyterian Church, in Keady Town. Drumhillery, Tynan Parish, is known as First Keady Presbyterian. The parish register is also available at the Presbyterian Historical Society, Belfast. I did not review these records.I did not review either source for Davidsons.

b) Aughnacloy: PRONI: MIC/1P/38/4 covers baptisms for 1812-1824, and 1830-1842, and marriages from 1830-1841. (not reviewed by me). Parishioners of the western half of Aghaloo Parish went to the church in Aughnacloy, from its beginnings.

c) Ballymagrane: PRONI: MIC/1P/39 (not abstracted by me)

d) Caledon: PRONI: MIC/1P/25 (not abstracted by me)

e) Kinnard-Minterburn Presbyterian Church was located at Lislooney, County Armagh from about 1661 to 1714. If the church records survived, they might be located at Presbyterian HQ for Ulster, at Fisherwick Place, Belfast.

f) Minterburn, Dyan Townland, Aghaloo Parish:

- PRONI: MIC/1P/26 has two reels. PRONI MIC/1P/26/1 covers Minterburn Presbyterian Marriages 1845-1870, and baptisms 1829-1870. PRONI MIC/1P/26/2 covers Baptisms for 1829-1950, and Marriages for 1845, and for 1860-1911. Reel 2 overlaps what is on Reel 1, but the quality is better on Reel 2. I did not review either of these reels.

-PRONI: MIC/1P/460/1 is titled Baptismal Register for 3rd Cookstown Presbyterian Church. About ¾ down from the start of the reel are marriage records for various Presbyterian Churches in the County Tyrone Presbytry, including Minterburn Marriages for 1829-1822. I did not review this reel.

g) Lismulladown Presbyterian. The chapel was built in 1831. I couldn’t find a source for their records.

h) Caledon Village Presbyterian. The chapel was built in 1824. I couldn’t find a source for their records.

5. Wesleyan Methodist Church Records:

-Auchnacloy: MIC CR6/3/G/1 covers baptisms fro 1823-1843 (186)

6. Caledon Estate Papers: The PRONI D.2433 series contains the originals of lot lease papers between the Earl of Caledon and his tenants, in several hundred boxes. You must first review the PRONI Binder D.2433 to find the names and period that you wish to access. Each record has a call number. I abstracted all Davidson leases up to 1829, which was one year after my Davidson ancestors left Aghaloo Parish for Lower Canada.

7. ‘Transactions relateing [sic] to the ?Caledon Estate since the grant thereof to William Hamilton Esqr by King Charles the 2nd.’ Mss Eng 218: 3-4. This MS contains 8 volumes of business letters of the 4th and 5th Earls of Orrery, dealing mostly with their estates in Ireland and England, many of them originals, 1714-1745. Volume 3 contains leases and an account of the Caledon Estate. These records held by the Houghton Library, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. I did not reviewed these records. They can only be accessed on site.
